Our Journey
From humble beginnings to becoming a cornerstone of Bengali culture in Gandhidham
The Beginning
Bengali families settling in Gandhidham-Kandla after independence organized the first Saraswati Puja at Kandla under the banner "KUTCH PROBASHI BENGALI SAMAJ", which later became "BENGALI ASSOCIATION".
First Durga Puja
A landmark year! The first Durga Puja was organized at Dr. D.N. Guptabhaya's residence, fulfilling the cherished dream of Bengalis in Kutch. Founding members included Dr. D.N. Guptabhaya, Dr. S.K. Ganguly, Shri P.C. Ghosh, Shri N.C. Chakraborty, Shri S.K. Mukherjee, and Shri R. Dasgupta. With bare minimum resources, many Bengalis and non-Bengalis contributed to this mammoth effort through great teamwork and coordination.
Pandal Revolution
Shri Ashok Rakshit and his team revolutionized mandap making, starting the era of complex and beautiful pandals. The famous "CROWN TV Pandal" remains iconic.
Durgabadi Era
Shri K.M. Chakraborty (Secretary) and Shri P.K. Mukherjee (President) led the construction of Durgabadi in 1985. First Durga Puja at Durgabadi was held in 1987. From 2006, celebrations moved outside, featuring impressive pandals, Kolkata decorations, and famous artists—making it a Grand Celebration for the entire community.
Golden Jubilee
50th year of Durga Puja! Pandal replica of Kedarnath Temple won Best Pandal in Overall Gujarat. A permanent Kali Mandir was established inside the building with daily worship.
